Donald Handeland Named to
State Board of Education

Donald Handeland, a junior from Nome, was named as the Student Representative to the State Board of Education and Early Development at their meeting on December 11, 2009.  This was Donald’s second attempt at being named to the Board.  

In order to be considered for the Board, Donald had to be nominated by the Alaska Association of  Student Government at their Statewide conference last Fall.  He traveled to Anchorage last week and was first interviewed by the Board in Executive Session.  With little time for deliberation, the Board came out of Executive Session and named Donald to the post.  He will be a member of the 9 member Statewide Board for next fiscal year.
