Mt. Edgecumbe Marine Biology Students Volunteer at the Local Hatchery

By Chohla Moll, science teacher

The Marine Biology class is currently learning about salmon, their life cycle and their role in the ecosystem.  The salmon are running up the rivers right now in Sitka and students have had an opportunity to snorkel with them in their natural environment.  In addition to swimming with the salmon, students volunteered at the Sheldon Jackson Hatchery during Saturday school on September 5th.  They were able to see the entire process from catching the fish to putting the eggs into the incubator.  Check out the pictures of students learning marine sciences hands on with professionals in the field of fisheries!
