Mt. Edgecumbe’s 3rd Annual Fear Factor

By Cliff Anderson – Recreation Specialist

Seven brave souls signed up this year for our 3rd annual Fear Factor. Fear Factor consists of two physical and one mental activity.

The first of the three is that each student had to jump into the ocean and swim out and around a life ring. Time does matter as the winner with the fastest time in the three activities wins the competition.

Second is the mental test for the students, in which they have to eat different unique types of food and wash it down with three raw eggs and fish sauce. This year’s menu consisted of rocky mountain oysters, habenjero peppers, cow tongue, and live crickets. They had four minutes to complete the special meal or be disqualified. Also if you could not keep it down you also would be eliminated.

The last part is another physical activity where they had to complete twenty bat spins, regain their balance, and run across a balance beam.  At the end of the balance beam, they had to complete ten more bat spins and run back across the beam to end where they started.

The winner, Eddie Pete, beat Adrianna by one second. For Eddie’s effort, he won one hundred dollars in cash.  Adrianna won twenty five dollars for finishing second.

I would like to thank the competitors, staff, and especially the student body for coming out and cheering their fellow students. Half the student body showed up to watch Fear Factor this year.  Thanks for supporting this fun activity.
