Welcome to Mt. Edgecumbe High School! 

 
School Year 2009-2010 has begun!

Students arrived from communities all over Alaska on Sunday morning at 2 a.m. by Alaska Airlines chartered jet.  It was touch and go, as the weather service and Alaska Airlines personnel predicted limited visibility in Sitka.  Fortunately, all new students to MEHS arrived without difficulty – but without many bags and boxes because of the weight of the extra fuel in case they had to fly back to Anchorage .

When asked what he thought about his arrival, Richard Corbett from Dillingham stated, "Too tired to talk about it."  Kim Jessup from Wasilla echoed Richard's thoughts, but added one more thought, "Tired and hungry."

As the Orientation Leaders cheer and sing the MEHS anthem, new students look dazed at 2 a.m.!  It takes courage to come to MEHS!



The first thing each student has to do is sign in to make sure that we know where each student is.  Room are assigned, keys are provided, money and medications are held safely, and it's off to find the luggage.



Now where are my bags?  Luckily it wasn't raining too hard and help is available. 

Mr. Andrew Friske, assistant dorm principal and Orientation coordinator, wishes to thank the Orientation Leaders, "The Orientation Crew worked 18 hours a day to greet and orient students.  They are a fantastic group of people."  Mr. Friske went on to explain that new students are oriented to dorms, cafeteria, washers and dryers, routines, expectations, rules, and fun activities.
