Mt. Edgecumbe High's Charlie Wholecheese (Anchorage) singlehandedly scored 21 points at a two-day swimming meet in Ketchikan last weekend.
Wholecheese, the only Mt. Edgecumbe swimmer, trains with the Sitka High swimmers under coach Robby Jarvill.
Wholecheese might practice with Sitka, but he competes as a one-man team for Mt. Edgecumbe and last Saturday he placed in two events, finishing second in the 200 freestyle and third in the 100 butterfly.
In the freestyle event, Wholecheese finished in 1:59.43, while the winner, Jordan Reid of Petersburg, came home in 1:52.70.
In the butterfly, Wholecheese's time was 59.83, just over four seconds slower than winner Seth Cayce of Juneau-Douglas.
Swimmers from JDHS, Kayhi, Petersburg, Craig, Sitka and Thunder Mountain joined Wholecheese at the regional meet.
Wholecheese also placed in two events last Friday, including a victory in the 500 freestyle. Wholecheese finished the distance event in 5:27.91, more than seven seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Wholecheese was also second in the 200 freestyle on the meet's first day, recording a time of 1:56.71. The winner, Case Kuikhoven of Kayhi, finished in 1:56.36.
The Southeast swimming championships are scheduled for Oct. 30-31 at Blatchley Middle School in Sitka.
