Mt. Edgecumbe's heavyweights once again sealed a match for the Braves Thursday night.

Wrestling against Ketchikan, the Braves took a forfeit and recorded three pins from 171 to 285 to fuel a 48-27 win over the 4A Kings.

It was another dual win for an Edgecumbe team that is off to a hot start in 2009.

``Happy, but not satisfied,'' was Edgecumbe coach Mike Kimber's response when asked about the match. ``The score was pretty big, but some of those wins (by Edgecumbe) were pretty ugly. A few of those matches could have gone either way.''

Ketchikan's flight was about 90 minutes late getting into Sitka, and some of the Kings were still carrying their suitcases when they made their way to the mat at B.J. McGillis Gymnasium for a match that got under way around 9 p.m.

The match started at 285, and Jaylin Prince set the tone early for Edgecumbe with a second-period pin of Cody Ring that put the Braves up 6-0.

The two teams then traded pins for the next five matches, leaving the score at 18-18.

Fritz Guy dropped Isaac Lontz at 103 to put Edgecumbe up 12-0, but Kayhi's Brandon Ojeda stopped the bleeding with a pin of Kory Joe at 112.

Nelson Kanuk responded for the Braves with a pin of Jimmy Seibel that gave MEHS an 18-6 lead.

Kayhi evened the match with pins by Ross Sanford (vs. Daniel Villasenor) and Joe Chadwell (vs. David Olin) at 125 and 130.

Sanford is the top-ranked 4A wrestler in the state at 119 pounds.

The match stayed close for a bit longer. Ian Fultz, the third-ranked 4A wrestler at 135, beat Edgecumbe's Ian Sia 6-1 to give the Kings their first, and only, lead of the night at 21-18.

The Braves quickly evened the score with a gutsy win by freshman Michael Matthew at 140. Filling in for Henry Horner, Matthew held on for a 9-8 win over Kayhi's Garrett Rossing.

After a 9-7 overtime win by Zach Ivanoff at 145, Edgecumbe was back in the lead for good.

Terry Rogers recorded a pin at 152 and Edgecumbe rolled from there. The lone exception was a loss by Levi Kvasnikoff at 160. Kayhi's Dalton Spear pinned Kvasnikoff to pull the Kings within 3 points at 30-27.

But Kayhi didn't score another point. Weingarth pinned Cody Streeper-Straight at 171, Donovan Phillips accepted a forfeit at 189, and Adam Iyapana pinned at 215 to close out the 48-27 win for the Braves.

Asked what he wants to accomplish this weekend, Kimber said: ``Just keep rolling.''
