The Mt. Edgecumbe Braves picked up two conference wins over the weekend, beating Wrangell back-to-back nights at B.J. McGillis Gymnasium.

The Braves beat Wrangell 57-48 Friday (Feb. 5), and came back to capture a 60-51 victory Saturday (Feb.6) in front of the home fans.

The Braves improved to 8-7 overall with a 5-4 conference record, and ran their conference winning streak to four games.

“The improvement in our consistency is what is really nice to see,” said MEHS coach Archie Young. “Hopefully, we can continue to improve and play our best basketball in the next three weeks.”

On Friday, the Braves got 17 points from Daniel Peters, a senior from Sitka. Sean Melovidov (St. Paul) had 14, Zach Ivanoff (Unalakleet) chipped in 10 and John Peterson (Golovin) had 7. There were four Braves in double figures on Saturday night. Peterson led the way with 13, while Peters and Melovidov each had 12. Jaylin Prince (Kotlik) had 10 points and 17 boards.

Up next for the Braves is game against cross-town rival Sitka. At 5-4, the Braves find themselves smack in the middle of a tight Southeast 3A conference. Haines is leading the way with an 8-0 record, and Sitka is second at 5-2.
