The Mt. Edgecumbe Lady Braves improved to 7-1 in conference play with two road wins against Wrangell.
The Lady Braves, who are 10-1 overall, got off to a slow start Friday (Feb.5), but eventually took over the game and won 47-31. The Lady Braves got 12 points apiece from Lainey Beaver and Christina Fields, a pair of Mt. Edgecumbe players from Kotzebue. Nicole Pingayak (Chevak) and Brandi Hale (Hooper Bay) had 9 points each.
The Lady Braves returned to the court at Wrangell High Saturday night (Feb. 6) and cruised past the Lady Wolves 55-26. Beaver had another 12 points to lead the way, while Aeshia Upton (Togiak) had 10 and Hale scored 9. Fiends and Pingayak had 8 each in the victory.
The Lady Braves are battling Sitka for the regular season conference title in 3A Southeast play. The winner will be the top seed at the Region V tournament, which opens March 2 at Mt. Edgecumbe High School. The cross-town rivals will play twice in February.
