On November 27 , 2001,
MEHS Students gathered in the cafeteria to participate in the year’s first
Merit Buck Auction! Merit Bucks are a
campus currency; Mt. Edgecumbe High School gives out, “Merit Bucks,” to our
students to reward good behavior and excellence in their academic studies. Our students collect Merit Bucks throughout
the year to pay for extra privileges on campus, as well as saving them to spend
at the auction!
This year, twelve local
businesses donated $931.32 worth of merchandise to our event! Item’s that ranged from water bottles to Wii
games! The event is also made possible
by the generous support of the Sitka Native Education Program; The SNEP Program
provides $1000.00 per semester for the Merit Buck Auction alone! This made for an amazing event, for our
students! They were able to bid on items
such as: Blankets, alarm clocks, gift certificates, sport equipment and a
variety of snack foods!
All in all, $15,665 Merit
Bucks were spent, and the big winners of the night was Alyssa Agnes and
Cheyanne Prince who walked away with the grand prizes-an iPod Shuffle
each!
Next time you talk to your child, be sure to
encourage them to earn Merit Bucks each day, we are sure to have another
amazing event second semester! |
