Participation in the Mt. Edgecumbe Basketball Program is a privilege, not a right! Players representing the basketball program at all levels will respect the privilege to play basketball by striving to excel on the court, in the classroom, and demonstrating positive dormitory behaviors. Each player who tries out will be given a fair opportunity to participate in basketball. We do not cut any athlete who chooses to try out. We have three levels in our program: varsity, junior varsity, and c team. The selection of players for each level is not final; through hard work and improvement players may be moved up and some players may be moved down if they do not show the necessary effort and improvement at the varsity/jv level. Players will come to Mt. Edgecumbe High School and learn to compete in a healthy manner. We will do this through a barrage of competitive drills in practice. Every player will be expected to pursue the highest grade possible in all classes. We will not expect everyone to get a 4.0, but the effort to receive the best grade they can, will be. The idea behind teamwork is essential in basketball and life. Players will learn to trust, follow, & lead throughout the school year. This attitude will carry on/off the floor and help foster lasting friendships. Through our competitive desire we will be known as a team that will compete for every possession and win/lose with good sportsmanship. A successful program is dependent upon competitiveness, commitment, desire, and honesty, and we will demonstrate & pursue each of these traits daily. Mt. Edgecumbe Basketball is about team succcess first and foremost! However, over the years we have had numerous players EARN the right to play at the collegiate level! We have even had two former players, Travante Williams and Damen Bell-Holter play Professional Basketball in Europe.
